This route is for the historian starting with the history of South Africa’s gold mining Industry to Sterkfontein Also known as (The cradle of humanity) and Soweto where the historical uprising of the disenfranchised began. Itinerary
  Day 1   JOHANNESBURG
     
  After your arrival at Johannesburg International Airport, one of our representatives can meet you and assist, you with the car hire formalities (Optional). Alternatively go directly to the car hire desk at the airport, collect your car, and drive to your guesthouse. If you would prefer we can collect you and transfer you to your guesthouse, where you can complete the formalities of your car hire. Your host will give you the all the information on where to go in Johannesburg. Johannesburg is in the Province of Gauteng and is where you will find the money and the action is. It is the most powerful commercial centre on the African continent. An African city works, the phones dial, the lights switch on, you can drink the water, there are multi-lane freeways, skyscrapers, conference centres, golf courses...it is the gateway to many Southern African tourist hotspots. Johannesburg is also home to Gold Reef city, many museums and theatres as well as spectacular botanical gardens – Johannesburg is also know as the City of trees – making one of the largest Urban Jungles in the world.

  Day 2   GOLD REEF CITY / APARTHEID MUSEUM
     
  distance: APP 40 KM

After breakfast set out to explore Johannesburg and it surrounds. Spend the day visiting Gold Reef City, about 35 KM out of Johannesburg. Gold Reef City is a living museum built around a worked out gold mine, depicting life in Johannesburg in the 1890’s. Home to casinos and theme parks, Gold Reef City is a day of fun and relaxation. Go visit the Apartheid Museum to learn about the history and the horrors of apartheid. After a day of fun return to Johannesburg to decide, which adventure you will undertake the next day.

  Day 3   SOUTH AFRICAN MUSEUM / SOWETO / STERKFONTEIN
     
  This morning head towards town and visit the Museum of South Africa – this museum is the only one of its kind and is open daily for visitors, afterwards go visit the Sterkfontein Caves (50 KM West of Johannesburg) the cradle of humanity, where our ancestors can be traced back 3 million years. Alternatively take a day tour to Soweto (ask us) South of Johannesburg, rich in protest history . Home to 2 Nobel Peace Prize Winners and to over 2 million inhabitants - Soweto, a city developed as a township under the apartheid system. With homes ranging from extravagant mansions to makeshift shacks, Soweto will most certainly surprise you at every turn.

  Day 4   KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - MPUMALANGA PROVINCE
     
  You will depart Johannesburg early in the morning and drive Eastwards towards the Kruger National park to will begin your adventure into BIG 5 territory. Once in Hazyview / White River you will overnight in one of our preferred accredited lodges. Your evening will be at leisure, whilst you look over your maps and information to plan your following day in the Kruger National Park. This area is the gateway to the Kruger National Park, so is the perfect place to spend the night Speak to you hosts and fellow travellers about the Kruger Park Hotspots.   Day 5   KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - GREATER KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
     
  We recommend that you head off early to visit the world famous Kruger National Park. The entrance fees (conservation fee) for the Kruger National Park are at present at R 120 per person per day (children paying half). The gates open at 05h30am and close at sunset. Please note that you need to leave the Kruger National Park before then. Please ensure that you stay in your vehicle at all times unless in a designated stopping area. The speed limit in the park is 40km/h. Your accommodation tonight will be in the GREATER KRUGER PARK in one of our preferred lodges. Spend your evening around the fire talking to other travellers about your adventures of the day, and getting tips on where to go the following day. The Greater Kruger is West of South Africa's Kruger National Park. Bordering it are independent safari lodges and hotels perfectly positioned to allow for a combination of activities allowing easy access to all the exciting highlights of this region.   Day 6   GREATER KRUGER - DULSTROOM via PANORAMIC
     
  distance: APP 350 KM

After breakfast, you will leave your lodge and take a drive along the lovely Panoramic Route in the Province of Mpumalanga “The Land of the Rising Sun” where you will be able to enjoy the famous landmarks of the Pinnacle, Gods Window, The 3 Rondavels, Bourke’s Potholes and the historic little town of Pilgrim’s Rest. The name 3 Rondavels comes from the name of the African huts that have the same shape as the mountains. You have to stop at Bourke’s Luck Potholes, for millions of years the Blyde River and Treur River ran a collision course here and stunning rock formations are the result. Stop and have lunch at the infamous Harry’s Pancakes or go the Waterfront. After lunch take a leisurely drive to Dullstroom where you will spend the night.Dulstroom is only 2 hours away from Johannesburg.

  Day 7   DULSTROOM - PRETORIA
     
  You will have breakfast and spend some of you day in and around Dulstroom one of South Africa premier fly-fishing destinations. Depart from Dulstroom heading towards Pretoria / City of Tshwane. After checking into your guesthouse – take a drive around. A relatively small city, Pretoria lies about 50km north of Johannesburg. Although largely a government-based city, it is also a place of culture, with theatres, museums and monuments. As the academic, scientific and technological capital of South Africa, the city has the most highly developed technology and research sector in Africa. Jacarandas throw a blanket of mauve over this, slightly, more sedate city. Even so, Pretoria boasts superb shopping centres, museums, art galleries and restaurants. There is also an abundance of open spaces ' Pretoria has more than 100 parks, including bird sanctuaries and nature reserves.

  Day 8   PRETORIA
     
  Tour the city, the administrative capital of South Africa. Visit the Union buildings with its beautiful gardens. Spend time in historic Church Square, dominated by the statue of Paul Kruger, President of the Transvaal Republic and the government buildings of the time. Visit his simple home in Church Street. Take a drive to the Voortrekker Monument a brooding presence on the hill outside Tshwane, commemorating the great trek made to the North. The Pretoria National Botanical Gardens offer more than 5,000 indigenous plant species. Not far from there the Fountains Valley Resort, just outside the city offers walks, trails and picnic areas.

  Day 9   PRETORIA - JOHANNESBURG

After breakfast take in some of the sights that you may not have had time to do in Pretoria, do some last minute souvenir shopping and continue back to Johannesburg. Once there check in your guesthouse and then go to one of the vibrant pubs or clubs in the town and experience the "Jozi" nighlife

  Day 10   JOHANNESBURG
     
  Today is your last day in Johannesburg. With its impressive list of things to do you have another day to pack in the last of it. Do your last minute curio shopping at the local markets and relax, enjoying the atmosphere of this first world African City. Enjoy your last night here either relaxing or partying up a storm, maybe travel to the Mogale Distric and spend the night at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountain range?

  Day 11   JOHANNESBURG - Airport
